COACH THE COACH 3

Here is another abysmal clean and jerk attempt at 123kg.  Aside from my highly motivated, truly dedicated, Marine Corps green "silkies" P.T. shorts and the borderline obscene view of my crotch, please fire away with any additional comments regarding the missed lift.

  1. All I could focus on was all that man that was on display due to the great shorts -- bulging thighs, aggressive yet structured pulling, great turnover, and loud roars. Killer!

It looks as though you didn't punch yourself fully under the jerk. Your back leg seems to have straightened out instead of bending and providing additional depth under the bar. As a result, your arms never full locked out and you lost the bar behind you, which is probably a better miss than to the front because that means you aimed for the "back of your neck."

It looked like a great lift from a great lifter, friend, and training partner! Keep up the hard work, brother. In the mean time, I'll just take another look at the video ... haha.

  2. @ Javi - First off, thanks for the critique and comments. I believe you're 100% correct in your assessment and would like to add that I felt "shallow" or "short" with my lead (left) foot. This compounded the lack of depth from not sufficiently bending the rear (right) leg, which ultimately resulted in the missed lift. Furthermore, I felt soft in my elbows and didn't truly commit and punch through the ceiling as I should have -- all points that are key to a successful jerk. Funny how the slightest errors in this sport can cascade into a catastrophe. Shit!

On a side note, thanks for the shorts comment.

  3. Joe, it looked to me like the dip portion of the jerk got a tad instable somewhere (knees looked to wobble ever so slightly), which i believe would lead to a little instability everywhere (elbows, hips, balance under bar), and contribute to not feeling "good" under the bar. I also agree with javy but think all those things happen as a result of even the slightest instability. Did uou happen to feel that, or notice it as you watch the video? By the way, PR'd my clean and jerk today @ 246! Thanks for your help!

  4. @ Aaron - thanks for the analysis and congrats on the new PR. 246# is rocking burl weight! Nice job my friend. Nice job!

The wobble you noticed is me trying not to blow out an "o-ring" and shit my shorts! Hahaha. Thanks again.
